Castle Fürstenburg

Medieval Castle Complex with modern use

The Fürstenburg in Burgeis is a medieval castle complex. It was built between 1272 and 1282 by Bishop Konrad of Chur. In the 16th and 17th century it was partly renovated.

Today the castle is property of the monastery Marienberg and it is used as agricultural school and for conferences.

The grounds

Worth seeing is especially the keep with walls up to 3 metres thick. Furthermore this is also the oldest part. Moreover there are rests of mural paintings, rooms with beautiful panelling and coat of arms.

The chapel

It has a mural painting from the end of the 16th century, a modern tabernacle with crosses made of bronze by Martin Rainer (1964).
